LIFESTYLE products, giftware and educational materials are among the expanded range of merchandise available through the revamped Cancer Council shop that opened this month at Garden City, Kotara.

A far cry from the early days when Cancer Council shops carried little more than sun-protection products, the new outlet has been upgraded to meet changing community needs.

Diet and exercise figure prominently among preventative measures, with exercise mats and weights on sale together with cookbooks and useful kitchen items.

Cancer Council chief executive officer Dr Andrew Penman said practical help and assistance to people living with cancer and their carers was also on offer through information and specialist products.

`We are taking an holistic approach to the understanding and prevention of the various forms of cancer as well as catering for the needs of those who suffer from the disease,' Dr Penman said.

`While we continue to offer sun-protection items, we have made the store a valuable and comprehensive source of information for cancer sufferers and their families.

`Our staff too have been trained to deal with the sensitive issues that might trouble people as well as guiding them in the right direction when help or advice is needed.'
